Exploring Nature

Posted by Lauren England on

Some of my favourite additions to my little girls playroom is allowing her to experience natures beautiful gifts. (under supervision)

  • Feathers
  • Gum nuts
  • Leaves
  • Bark
  • Pine cones
  • Large Stones
  • Seed pods
  • Shells (there are too many to list)

There are so many learning opportunities that can take place;

Exposure to vocabulary - Talking about and describing an object for example a stone;

-A stone is heavy so if we throw it, someone can get hurt.

-It feels very smooth, or it can be very rough.

-It feels cold.

Cause and effect- A dried leaf can be brittle and light if we scrunch in our hand what happens? Did it break into little pieces? Can you put it back together?

Below is an invitation to explore nature;

What you will need;

  • Magnifying glass
  • Mirrors
  • Tray filled with assorted natural items

Books about nature

“The tiny Seed” by Eric Carl

“Planting rainbow” by Lois Ehlert

“Isabella’s Garden” by Glenda Millard

 *Children that tend to mouth objects can still join in on the fun by placing the nuts or seeds into a child safety container.

I have created a nature scavenger hunt list that you can download FREE! Don’t forget to write your email.
